Food Run, a platforming collect-em-up from indie studio Pixels On Toast, is all set for its debut on iPhone and iPad in the New Year after passing Apple certification. The game involves traversing some sickeningly sweet, sugary levels to collect stars and other food items. The official release date is set for January 17, so there’s not too long to wait.
I’ve already had a play around on a near-final version of the game and have found it to be an addictive little distraction that is ideal for its host platform. It’s all very simple in theory, but where the game really comes into its own is in trying to 100% complete each of the increasingly challenging levels. Food Run pays some lovely homage to the golden age of platform titles (such as Sonic and Zool) with some of its mechanics and backgrounds – plus the music is a delightfully jaunty tune well suited to rapid, repeat playings. Check out the trailer below and you’ll get what I mean about the music.
