Tekken Bowl for iPhone/iPad: First Impressions

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada announced that Tekken Bowl would be released for free on iOS devices. Today I’ve been checking the App Store occasionally to see when it would go up for UK customers, well that time is now! The app is based on the bowling mini-game that was first seen in Tekken Tag Tournament for the Playstation 2. The old saying goes ‘you get what you pay for’, but not with this awesome giveaway from Namco Bandai.

The game is pretty fun, with three playable characters in Jin, Ling, and Panda. Each has varying attributes, but in the limited time I’ve spent with this title it doesn’t seem to make too much of a difference. Tapping the touch screen is used to set power and direction, while swiping horizontally sets where to place your character.

The regular mode is your standard bowling game for one or two players. There is also a puzzle mode, which controls slightly differently from the regular mode. In puzzle mode the player is awarded a bronze, silver or gold medal depending on how many attempts were used to clear the pins that are obstructed in different ways. For a freebie, there’s a decent amount here to keep both Tekken fans and iOS gamers interested.

Given that this is a free game you really have no reason not to give it a download. Here’s some screenshots I grabbed of the game running on my iPhone 4:
